Ram Standard
Horns: Polled or scurred
Adult Weight: 180-200 lb.
Frame: Medium
Color: No color restrictions
Conformation:
- Stand squarely with upright carriage and masculine quality
- Deep body with well sprung rib area
- Pasterns strong and upright
- Top line dip behind the shoulders acceptable
“Ruff”: St. Augustine rams have a “ruff” resembling a lion’s mane, running from under the jaw near the top of the throat, down the length of the throat to the top of the brisket. The ruff must run from where the neck meets the jaw, down the throat area to the brisket, and be a prominent part of the profile. Rams over 18 months of age should have a minimum ruff of 2 inches long at the brisket area.
Disposition: Rams have been selected for gentle temperament as well as conformation and frame size. It is encouraged to continue selection for ease of handling in the rams. Rams displaying aggressive behavior should be culled.
Ewe Standard
Horns: Polled or scurred
Adult Weight: 130-150 lb.
Frame: Medium
Color: No color restrictions
Conformation:
- Stand squarely with upright carriage and a feminine quality
- Deep body with well sprung rib area
- Pasterns strong and upright
- Top line dip behind the shoulders acceptable
Disposition: Ewes should be calm and flock well. Flighty, overly excitable ewes should be culled.
Defects
- Over or under shot jaw
- Small frame and stature
- Extreme Cow hock or sickle hock
- Weak pasterns
- Cryptorchidism or Monorchidism

Rams

- Ruff present – No limit on length or thickness
- Polled or scurred
- Stand square and erect with a masculine appearance
- Top line dip behind shoulder acceptable
- Deep body with a well sprung rib area
- Ample leg width with rounded muscle – Not a long muscle
- Large testicles normally shaped and even in size
Ewes
- No color restrictions
- Polled or scurred
- Stand square and erect with a feminine appearance
- Top line dip behind shoulder acceptable
- Deep body with a well sprung rib area
- Ample leg width with rounded muscle – Not a long muscle
- Udder: Both halves even in size
- Teats: Two teats even in size
